My. Job. Sucks.
I mean, for the most part I enjoy it. I enjoy interacting with people and helping them relax and enjoy their short stay in my hotel. I enjoy getting to know them. The part I don’t enjoy is our scheduling.
Not sure who’s bright idea it was to stick two people on staff to run a hotel full of 220 people, but I want to knock that person into next week.
That’s right, they put one bellhop and one front desk person on with 100 arrivals and over 100 in house guests. I was not only making reservations, I was checking people in, making keys, making change, running gift shop, taking complaints, sending housekeeping to rooms, taking laundry and filling out the correct paperwork for it, doing credit card authorizations, finding and sorting gift bags, taking calls about airport runs, directing people to restaurants, charging things to rooms, moving people from and to rooms, routing and pre-depositing internet reservations, opening up blocks so I could actually book people into their rooms, and more. I didn’t have time to eat, think, or even think about thinking.
ALSO: If you ever call down to the front desk and they miss your call, IT’S NOT BECAUSE THEY’RE STANDING THERE STARING AT THE PHONE GOING “LOL I’M NOT GONNA ANSWER THIS.”
A man called down and I finally got a chance to answer the phone after having checked in 4 people while taking reservation calls and shuttle calls. He tore into me. “I thought you were suppose to answer the phone. I’ve called three times for a wake up call.”
I apologized and told him I was on the phone helping other people when he called. “Well I called three times.”
Blah blah blah. I interrupted and asked what time his wake up call was and then said “Ok have a good night.” and hung up. What do you think I do all day? I DO HAVE THINGS TO DO OTHER THAN TO CATER TO JUST YOU. THERE ARE 200 OTHER PEOPLE IN THE HOTEL.
OH and also: DELTA SUCKS. Delta pilots are cool. They’re always laid back and fun. But Delta Stewards (Stewardesses are generally nice) SUCK. They are such dicks! I had my bellhop trying to run back and forth to the airport and every where else and she was late picking up Delta. They ended up calling me 4 times and eventually were very rude to me on the phone. “Well this is very inconvenient. We have a short night” blah blah blah.
Then when they finally go to the hotel they took shots at me in front of everyone. Not the driver of the van. ME. Like I had control over how fast she drove, where, etc.
“Well maybe she should schedule our van time an hour early in the morning, seeing as it’s always late.”
I nearly threw his key at him.
I fucking hate Delta. They’re stuck up, pretentious assholes who walk around with their nose up to the world because they think since they fly on a plane all the goddamn time they’re better then someone who works desk at a hotel.
NEWSFLASH: You’re just a front desk employee in a flying hotel. You cater to every person on the plane by serving them drinks and food. The only difference is you don’t do half the shit I do in one day in your entire week. Get off your high horse before I knock you off it.
By the end of my shift I was so ready to leave. I told next shift good luck and sat in the back counting my bank and closing gift shop. Normally I would offer a hand while they were getting settled into the shift, but I was just too tired.
…On the bright side I came home to a package. I got my new tablet! It’s so shiny and beautiful! I CANNOT WAIT TO USE IT <3 <3 <3
It made my night a bit better, but now I have to go back in today. Thursday needs to get here faster ~
