We’ve been really busy today and this weekend is looking pretty full. Constant walk-ins. I don’t mind though. It’s kind of a nice change of pace.

Sometimes I wonder what people’s experiences are with other shops, though. Some of them come in and look through the few books of flash art we have, which are pretty old as is, and ask us if we have any pictures of roses. We offer them the computer where they can search a database of thousands of images of various designs (much more then the books can offer) and they’re hesitant and continue to ask if there’s any in the books. We’re a custom shop anyway, so whatever they pick we’d rather alter to be more personal and unique. And what’s so bad about searching the internet for ideas? You don’t even have to be looking at tattoos for ideas. Want a nice cross? Look at various jewelry designs of crosses. It’s nice when we have a customer come in and sort of step out of the box. :)

I’m probably rambling at this point. heh.

I’m working on commissions, although the realization that my laptop screen doesn’t show images like most people see them kind of halted the coloring of them at the moment. If the person viewing the image is on a desktop I’ve noticed the pictures are much darker. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this when drawing my sabertooth.

I’m going to have to consider either getting another monitor or trying to adjust this somehow…

Egypt Coverage

“[Updated 5:31 p.m. (0031 in Egypt)] Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak says he has asked the government to resign, and that he will appoint a new government Saturday. He gave no indication that he would step down or leave the country.”

Man. It’s getting crazy. I won’t comment too much until I know exactly what’s going on - but I have a feeling a domino effect is going to happen around the world over the next decade or so. hm.

It’s another day at the shop. I had Sunday off (I usually work 6 days a week) and I found out this week I’ll have Tuesday and Wednesday off! Finally some time to finish up some of the projects I’ve been meaning to work on!

Things have been decent lately, I suppose. I have issues with my family but it’s mostly because my sister decided to move back in and she’s completely selfish. She’s a teen though. Not going to change for a few years.

Over the next few days I have 3 pictures I’m hoping to get completely finished. 2 are commissions and the third is a long overdo prize from a contest I held like 2 years ago. I had forgotten about it, due to it being around the time I dropped out of CCS and had a lot of family issues so I didn’t spend much time online anymore. It’s ok though. The character’s designs are fun - so it won’t be too hard.

Today I’m hoping to practice on some fruit again. Need to get used to my new machine that my boss bought me for christmas~! :)

So, due to drama at the shop I’ll be opening up name your price commissions soon.

The new partial owner decided to be unprofessional and now I’m in a bit of a rut. He bought into the shop and signed a contract to pay certain things. He not only hasn’t paid what he said he would in the contract, he also promised me he would pay for half of my piercing apprenticeship (about $400) and I would pay him back weekly for it. I signed up with the piercer to come up here from Detroit around a certain date because he promised me the money way before that.

I wouldn’t have had a problem if he had told be a while ago that he couldn’t give me the money, but he waited until now to tell me he not only wasn’t going to give me the money but he is also trying to go behind my back and my bosses back and fire us. He’s trying to get us to hire a hack who doesn’t know the first thing about safety when tattooing because he’s a friend of the guy, just so he can say he doesn’t need us anymore. And you know why he’s doing it? Because we’re female. He seriously believes females cannot run a business effectively. We’ve made enough money to pay all the bills even though he was suppose to be paying them (as agreed in the contract). We can run it effectively and honestly we don’t even need him there. (He has come into the shop twice, maybe three times since November anyway. And hardly calls to find out what’s going on.)

SO - He is going to be out of the shop come April. It’s mostly because the people he signed a contract with to pay the debt of the place are suing him for not making an effort to pay them back, though. *SIGH OF RELIEF*

ANYWAY - Since he won’t be giving me the money I have to quick try to make the most of it I can by the end of February. That means I’ll be opening up commissions where you name your own price. Every penny counts at this point. But please - be reasonable. No $5 super detailed 30 character commissions.

Once I upload these last two commissions they’ll be open. But I figure I’ll post this up now and give people time to think about it. I really appreciate any help you can give me!!

Augh. SO much stress. I have a trip to Florida coming up though - and while I’m down there I’ll be checkin out the tattoo shops! About a year ago I got a free round trip because I got stuck in Atlanta due to a stewardess not showing up and the flight not taking off for another day. The awesome Kristel Oreto is coming up here for Motor City Tattoo Convention end of Febuary and I’m going to talk to her about getting a tattoo eventually while I’m down there. (With my mom and aunt and sister living down there they sometimes offer to pay to fly me down there a few times a year to visit them. :) )

When this all passes over I’ll look back and laugh and wonder why I stressed so much. I swear. ~

So I decided to turn this into my sort of apprenticeship blog. My adventures working at a tattoo shop and the crazy shit I deal with on a daily basis almost. I’ll be posting sketches, tattoos, and piercings I do. Hopefully I can look back on these early entries one day and see a great improvement!~ :)
